Heritage Window Restoration
Challenge:
Petra and Steve from Auldana needed to address their draughty, partially rotten Gothic-style kitchen window. Initially planning to replace the window, they were delighted when Oliver from Finestra Double Glazing suggested preserving the original timber frame and improving it with double-glass panes. The project required an overhaul of the 64mm thick frame, which had broken joints and a bottom sill that needed replacement. Additionally, the window was unexpectedly found to be loose and unanchored to the surrounding brick walls, necessitating careful removal and reconstruction on-site.
Solution:
Oliver meticulously restored the window, reinforcing its structure, replacing the bottom sill, and enhancing it with modern double glazing while maintaining the integrity of its chunky timber profiles and outer contour. The work was completed entirely on-site over two weeks, combining heritage craftsmanship with energy-efficient upgrades.
